It is with certain sadness that we announce the departure one of the founders of Buchinger’s Boot Marionettes, Patrick Sims, has decided to leave the group with immediate effect.
Patrick has withdrawn the rights for the Company to perform either “The Armature of the Absolute” or “The Snow Flea” and as such these performances are no longer in the repertoire of Buchinger’s Boot Marionettes.
The news of Patrick’s decision came as a shock for everyone; the remainder of the Company decided that an immediate artistic reaction to being stripped of its repertoire is vital.
To this end, Mafalda da Camara and Richard Penny (co-founders with Patrick) are now the co-directors of the Company.
At a meeting of the association it was decided to work on a new creation.The performance will be directed by Mafalda who will develop the project that has as a provisional title “Vassilissa and the Baba Yaga” that has it’s roots in a Russian folktale.
Richard Penny is responsible for another radical change in the Company’s profile; Buchinger’s Boot will be performing the new show in a 50 seat tent arranged specifically for the new production. ‘Baba Yaga’ is also destined be performed in theatres.
We are happy to announce the arrival of Aymeric Roussel to the artistic team; Aymeric is a puppet maker and film animator (see http://www.vimeo.com/8077456) for a recent example of his work. Music will be composed by Karine Dumont (listen myspace.com/kalalunaticproject)
The other members of the company will remain for the new creation of Buchinger’s Boot; Julian Weare (lighting design), Oriol Viladomu (sound and robotics).
Rehearsals will take place in Marseille in from Ferbruary 2010 with the opening in May. We are currently in negotiations and hope to announce the time and place of the new creation and of course we will keep you updated and informed of the progress.
Unrelated to these events we must also announce the departure of Laure Skarbek, who for the past year has been responsible for the administration of the Company. Laure has been a rock in the foundation of the Company in Marseille. Laure is leaving to pursue new objectives and we wish her all the best.
